I was recently asked to design a premium theme for WordPress.com and part of doing so involved illustrating these cuties. I went with a food-themed design (and you all know how much I enjoy drawing food, if the Portfolio section of this website is any indication) and four different color schemes. It’s hard to pick a personal favorite, but I’m partial to the citrus one.
A returning customer of mine is marketing a new product, and they asked if I would help with the logo design. I can hardly take credit for anything other than the mechanics of this one, as they came to me with several proposed ideas, all sketched out, and described in great detail how they wanted it to look. We tried a couple minor variations on this theme but eventually they settled on the original concept. Although I do enjoy brainstorming with my clients to get just the right look, and it’s certainly fun to be creative, sometimes it’s refreshing when someone else has already done the research and considered the concepts beforehand, and all I have to do is draw the idea into being!
I’m cheating and using an existing design for this week’s Illustration Friday theme, transportation. This personalized kids’ banner I designed a while back came to mind immediately. On a personal note, my daughter has a sudden fascination with the “cool bus” (school bus), to the point where I may need to print one of these posters with her name for her birthday!
There’s a new October wallpaper in progress, but in the meantime, here’s a doodle I created a few years ago that perfectly fits my mood. Picking apples and carving pumpkins, getting lost in corn mazes, yummy baking and hot soups and stews–fall is officially here and I’m loving it. “I found the perfect one” was one of my first illustrations inspired by this wonderful autumn feeling, and it remains a favorite.
It may be hard to believe, but now is a good time to start thinking about seasonal marketing–Halloween will be here before you know it! Mason Girl Cupcakes knows that, and she requested a few custom postcard designs for the upcoming holidays. This was my favorite from the bunch.
