I’m trying to think ahead this year, so I’ve been brainstorming holiday-oriented designs. This clever little birdy amused me, so I think you’ll see this offered in the shop soon as a postcard design!
And yes, I know I’m very late with November’s desktop wallpaper. I’ve been so busy with custom work (more on that soon) I haven’t had as many opportunities to focus on my own things. November is hardly an inspiring month in this neck of the woods in any case–so bleak and gray. But I’m sure I can come up with something involving Thanksgiving turkey. Mmm, turkey.
I’m cheating and using an existing design for this week’s Illustration Friday theme, transportation. This personalized kids’ banner I designed a while back came to mind immediately. On a personal note, my daughter has a sudden fascination with the “cool bus” (school bus), to the point where I may need to print one of these posters with her name for her birthday!
I recently finished this sweet custom couple’s portrait for a client. Aren’t these two cute? Illustrating this reminded me why I love working on portraits. As much as I enjoy the business-y, promotional side of design, it’s nice to do something more personal once in a while.
There’s a new October wallpaper in progress, but in the meantime, here’s a doodle I created a few years ago that perfectly fits my mood. Picking apples and carving pumpkins, getting lost in corn mazes, yummy baking and hot soups and stews–fall is officially here and I’m loving it. “I found the perfect one” was one of my first illustrations inspired by this wonderful autumn feeling, and it remains a favorite.
This week’s Illustration Friday theme is “proverb,” and I chose “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”… unless that apple is a witch’s poison apple! I’m in the mood for all things Halloween, so I’ve been looking for an excuse to doodle something spooky. I’m considering making this available as a seasonal print in the Calobee Doodles shop, although I fear all the black-on-black will be difficult to reproduce.
